Beginning Our Adoption Process:
1. Please spend some time looking at our Website/ Facebook to help you get to know us better. We will typically have several pictures of puppies available and more information about them to help you determine if they are the right fit for your household. Please review our Adoption Form, Health and Sales Contract and Spay/ Neuter Contract. Adding a new puppy to your household is a big decision and one not to be taken lightly so we want to do our best to make sure that the puppy is the best choice for your lifestyle and that we are the right breeder for you. If you have never been owned by a Shih Tzu please take time to research the breed, ask questions and become an educated dog owner.
2. Fill out our Adoption Form so we can better get to know you and the type of home you can provide for one of our puppies. This is also a great place for us to be able to answer questions you may have. Adoption Form ( 2020)
3. Give us a call! We want to get know you and answer your questions as well. While we do maintain a website we don't feel that we can form a sufficient friendship and get to know you solely thru email. We are picky about the homes we place our puppies in and want the very best for them :) We do not place puppies solely through email. All potential homes are carefully screened through phone and also our adoption form prior to ever allowing anyone to our home for the safety of both of our puppies and our families.

Do I want a Male or Female?
Unlike many other breeds Shih Tzu have solely been bred to be companions so we see less gender linked tendencies in Shih Tzu in comparison to other breeds. Each of our Shih Tzu puppies has individual personalities which may or may not be gender linked. But, we do see some personality differences between males and females. In general, males are sweeter and more devoted to their families. If I personally had a choice of a spayed/neutered pet it would no doubt be a neutered male. Females can sometimes be moody ( hard to imagine ladies) and sometimes will bond closer to one family member over another. The easiest way to look at it is that the little girls love you but the little boys are in love with you.
Males are easier to keep in coat so if you are looking for a show dog this is something to consider. Males will not go in heat and blow coat as females occasionally do. Females won't blow their coats when they are spayed (but can not, of course, be shown spayed :) We encourage you to consider both genders and individual personalities when selecting your new family member.
A little about Temperament:
Because our Shih Tzu are our pets and live as part of our homes, we know the individual temperaments and personalities very well of our dogs. The Shih Tzu is a companion dog and doesn't thrive in large kennel situations and the temperament and manners of the Shih Tzu mommies is directly reflected in their puppies. Having our dogs as part of our families means that our females are well mannered, socialized and help us raise puppies just like themselves. They are used to common household noises, cats, children, men ect. Because they are so well socialized and well acclimated to every day home life we notice that their puppies also display the same ability to learn and the same adaptability in transitioning to their forever families.
While all of our dogs have different personalities and distinct likes and dislikes, disposition is a big priority here at Beauty's. We will not breed nippy, aggressive or nervous dogs nor will we breed dogs who are hyper, OCD, yappy or have any other type of personality trait that wouldn't make that dog a desirable family pet. Though the Shih Tzu breed overall is a warm, friendly and even temper, unfortunately these traits can exist if temperament is not an important part of a breeder's program and a breeder doesn't make the hard choices in not choosing to bred dogs with these negative personality characteristics.
That being said each of our puppies does have an individual personality- some are more outgoing and playful and are best suited to a family and others love love love to be with their special person and want to be on your lap most of the time. We always try to match the puppies personality with your lifestyle and home.
A little about size:
We do our best to give you an accurate estimate of what size your puppy will mature to as an adult. But it is only that, an estimate and not a guarantee. We can not guarantee size the same way we can not guarantee show quality or the same way you can not guarantee that your child will be exactly 5'6 as an adult because both parents are 5'6. There are many factors which contribute to the size of a dog overall at maturity: the size of the parents, grandparents and lineage behind, the size of past puppies or known produce from the lines, body style (i.e.. short or tall, petite or stocky), weight, age, metabolism, coat, exercise level and so many more factors which only God can control.
Here at Beauty's we breed more for body style and structure than weight alone. We prefer short and stocky with strong bone structure. Not all of our dogs have this body structure and we are constantly trying to improve each generation. A short and stocky dog may weigh pounds larger than another dog of the same height. This is, for example, why a 4 pound Chihuahua is very similar in height to a 6 pound Shih Tzu- because of the difference in the body structure.
As reputable breeders what we can do is to give you an honest size representation of our mommies and daddies, research our pedigrees so we know the lines behind each of our dogs, keep track of weights of current puppies and past puppies and use common weigh predictor charts to help give you a good size estimate. As puppies grow older it becomes easier to estimate size. We give a general idea of size at 6 weeks and at 8-12 we can give you a good size estimate of our puppies. If you are looking for a very specific size or a particularly tiny size I encourage you to be patient and to consider an older puppy or young adult. The very tiny sizes do not come around all the time and are often significantly higher in price than other puppies. You may also consider an older puppy or adult depending on how specific you are in the size you are looking for.
We do not take deposits on our very tiny puppies until they are older and depending how small we are talking they may need to have additional vet checks, blood panel etc.. and we also do at least one fecal test on each of our litters. Birth weight plays little to no factor in determining adult size of the puppy. We have produced 4 pound tiny Shih Tzu from puppies born 6 ounces no different than we have from puppies born 3 or 4 ounces. There are many factors which contribute to birth weight such as: litter size, number of breeding's of parents ( tiny puppies may have been conceived later in the mother's heat), unequal distribution of nutrients in the womb, some males seem to always produce puppies who are virtually the same size at birth ( and of course vary in size as adults), some very tiny puppies may be born with a liver shunt or heat defect, and then there are some puppies who are born very tiny and stay tiny and healthy as adults. But from our experience, most tiny imperial Shih Tzu are born the same size as normal Shih Tzu puppies but have a much slower growth rate which we start to notice as the puppies become mobile it then becomes very apparent at weaning time.
Our Imperial Shih Tzu puppies must be at least 2 pounds before going home no matter what their age. If the puppy will be flying they may need to be a few ounces over 2 pounds before we will consider letting them go home. Puppies under 2 pounds can not regulate their blood sugar and are also more prone to picking up a virus which can be deadly in a tiny imperial Shih Tzu puppy. We also recognize how difficult it is to find a healthy, happy socialized very tiny Shih Tzu which still looks like a Shih Tzu and we are always willing to wait to take a deposit until we feel comfortable giving a realistic size estimate and that the puppy is fully healthy. Please be weary of breeders willing to take a deposit on a very tiny young puppy or who will send home an imperial Shih Tzu puppy at 8 weeks. Honestly, you are looking at nothing but health problems or a puppy who will grow significantly bigger than expected. We say this not to tell you that there are only sickly tiny Shih Tzu out there because that is a total myth but so that you know that when choosing an Imperial Shih Tzu puppy choosing the right reputable breeder is just as important as choosing the puppy itself! We produce happy healthy tiny imperial Shih Tzu, just look at our website ( some are in our breeding program) or our YouTube to see them in action!

We always reserve the right of pick of litter puppy from our litters as we are continuing to add very selectively to elevate our breeding program to higher levels. We also always reserve the right to refuse a sale of any of our puppies if we feel it is not in their best interest. We also always reserve the right to determine when we feel puppies to be mentally and physically ready to go home. Puppies must be a minimum of 9 weeks to go home, but sometimes take a little longer. Puppies will be 2 + pounds, eating well on their own, vet checked ect. before joining their new families. Thank you for your understanding.
