Who We Are |
Beauty's Shih Tzu was born out a vision to bring the highest quality, home raised Shih Tzu to deserving forever homes! Unlike many other breeders we don't maintain waiting lists that are miles long and our puppies are only placed with pampered pet homes on spay/neuter contract allowing our customers the chance to purchase the puppy of their dreams without having to wait years or put deposits down on unborn litters who may not live up to their expectations.
As passionate Shih Tzu breeders as well as aficionados of the breed ourselves our goal is not to breed just another puppy. We love all sizes of Shih Tzu but specialize in producing the smaller size most typically ranging from 4-12 pounds full grown. We began to specialize in the smaller sizes as we found that so many wonderful pet owners were having to choose between buying a quality Shih Tzu or a tiny Shih Tzu. We decided that people shouldn't have to choose between quality or size and that we could offer Show look and quality Shih Tzu in a smaller package to deserving pampered pet homes! |
Our History |
We are a family of animal lovers- plain and simple! We have owned and loved many different breeds and mixed breeds of dogs as well as other animals. When Kim was just a baby Karen bred and raised German Shepherds with German import lines. As busy families go Karen did not continue breeding as first Kim and then Kristy were born- but our family always owned dogs, cats and other animals.
After Katie and Bradley were born and Kim and Kristy were teenagers we spent over 10 years involved in Morgan show horses. That experience taught us so much more than just riding or loving horses but really how to create a top quality breeding program as we learned from our mentors and trainers and how to breed and show the best examples of our breed- something we would later translate into dogs! In fact, Kim and Kristy's first time in the ring showing halter we actually beat our trainer at the time- showing the potential we would later realize in choosing top quality individuals and learning how to train and present them to be their very best. We also purchased a purebred Scottish Terrier when Kim and Kristy were teenagers as both a family pet and also we hoped to breed him. While he was never bred we learned alot from him. When he was two he came down with lifelong allergies and we also later learned that he came from a puppy broker- things we were grateful that we never introduced into a breeding program. Eventually we bought not one but two more Scottish Terriers- none of which were ever used for breeding. The female "Tilly" came from a breeder who was out of state and seemed to have a beautiful website and breeding program. When she arrived at the airport it was quite obvious that we were victims of bait and switch. In speaking to other friends throughout the years we also found similar stories- it seemed there was a shortage of home raised quality dogs in California. Though we did not begin breeding ourselves until years later we took all of the experience both good and bad and vowed to be the type of breeders we would have wanted to buy from but could never find! Thus Beauty's Shih Tzu was born!
