We are a California Shih Tzu breeder. We are located in Manteca, CA ( about halfway between the Bay area/ Sacramento).
We do offer shipping via a pet nanny for out of state homes to major airports. This cost typically runs $550-$650 not including our airport fee. Ask about special pricing for our Georgia puppies to fly to the Sacramento airport. Please note: No puppy is considered On Hold until a deposit has been received from a qualified home
We have two locations. We are located in both Manteca ( Northern CA) and also Georgia (Georgia) while I go to law school. We will indicate on each litter where they are located. I can fly 2 puppies at a time from Atlanta to CA if there is serious interest at a discounted shipping price, please ask if this is something you are interested in.
For those located elsewhere we have a great pet nanny that can fly with the babies or I can meet at the Atlanta airport that has many direct flights :)

Beginning Our Adoption Process:
1. Please spend some time looking at our Website/ Facebook to help you get to know us better. We will typically have several pictures of puppies available and more information about them to help you determine if they are the right fit for your household. Please review our Adoption Form,Health and Sales Contract. Adding a new puppy to your household is a big decision and one not to be taken lightly so we want to do our best to make sure that the puppy is the best choice for your lifestyle and that we are the right breeder for you. If you have never been owned by a Shih Tzu please take time to research the breed, ask questions and become an educated dog owner.
2. Fill out our Adoption Form so we can better get to know you and the type of home you can provide for one of our puppies. This is also a great place for us to be able to answer questions you may have: Adoption Form 3. Give us a call! We want to get know you and answer your questions as well. While we do maintain a website we don't feel that we can form a sufficient friendship and get to know you solely thru email. We are picky about the homes we place our puppies in and want the very best for them :) We do not place puppies solely through email. All potential homes are carefully screened through phone and also our adoption form prior to ever allowing anyone to our home for the safety of both of our puppies and our families. Please call Karen @ (209) 647-2916 or Kim @ ( 530) 798-0656 or Karen's Cell Phone (408) 912-4083
Do I want a Male or Female? Unlike many other breeds Shih Tzu have solely been bred to be companions so we see less gender linked tendencies in Shih Tzu in comparison to other breeds. Each of our Shih Tzu puppies has individual personalities which may or may not be gender linked. But, we do see some personality differences between males and females. In general, males are sweeter and more devoted to their families. If I personally had a choice of a spayed/neutered pet it would no doubt be a neutered male. Females can sometimes be moody ( hard to imagine ladies) and sometimes will bond closer to one family member over another. The easiest way to look at it is that the little girls love you but the little boys are in love with you. Males are easier to keep in coat so if you are looking for a show dog this is something to consider. Males will not go in heat and blow coat as females occasionally do. Females won't blow their coats when they are spayed (but can not, of course, be shown spayed :) We encourage you to consider both genders and individual personalities when selecting your new family member.
A little about Temperament:
As our Shih Tzu are beloved pets and integral members of our households, we have a deep understanding of their individual temperaments and personalities. The Shih Tzu breed thrives in a home environment and does not fare well in large kennel settings. The temperament and behavior of our Shih Tzu mothers directly influence their puppies. Our females are well-mannered, socialized, and actively assist in raising puppies who embody similar traits. They are accustomed to typical household noises, the presence of cats, interactions with children, men, and more. Their exceptional socialization and acclimation to everyday home life contribute to their puppies' ability to learn and adapt smoothly to their forever families.
While each of our dogs possesses unique personalities, with distinct preferences and aversions, disposition holds significant importance at Beauty's. We refuse to breed dogs with nippy, aggressive, or nervous tendencies. Similarly, dogs exhibiting hyperactivity, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, excessive vocalization, or any other negative personality traits are not chosen for breeding. We prioritize breeding dogs that possess desirable traits for a family pet. The Shih Tzu breed as a whole is known for its warm, friendly, and even-tempered nature. However, it is crucial for breeders to prioritize temperament and make difficult choices when it comes to selecting dogs with positive personality characteristics.
That being said, each of our puppies possesses an individual personality. Some are outgoing and playful, making them ideal for families, while others thrive on affection and enjoy being close to their special person, often seeking a spot on their lap. We always make an effort to match a puppy's personality with the prospective owner's lifestyle and home environment.
A little about size: We strive to provide you with an accurate estimate of your puppy's eventual adult size. However, it's important to note that this estimate is not a guarantee. Similar to how you cannot guarantee that your child will be exactly 5'6" as an adult despite both parents being 5'6", there are multiple factors that contribute to a dog's size at maturity. These factors include the size of the parents, grandparents, and lineage, as well as the size of past puppies from the bloodlines. Other variables such as body style, weight, age, metabolism, coat, exercise level, and more also influence a dog's size. Ultimately, these factors are beyond our control and are governed by nature.
At Beauty's, we prioritize breeding for body style and structure rather than focusing solely on weight. We prefer short and stocky Shih Tzu with strong bone structure. It's important to note that a shorter and stockier dog may weigh more than another dog of the same height. This is why, for example, a 4-pound Chihuahua can be similar in height to a 6-pound Shih Tzu, due to differences in body structure.
As reputable breeders, we can provide you with an honest representation of the size of our parent dogs. We diligently research our pedigrees to understand the lineage behind each of our dogs. We also keep track of weights of current and past puppies and utilize common weight predictor charts to assist in giving you a size estimate. As puppies grow older, it becomes easier to estimate their size. We provide a general idea of size at 6 weeks, and by 8-12 weeks, we can offer a more accurate size estimate for our puppies.
If you are seeking a very specific or particularly tiny size, we encourage patience and consideration of older puppies or young adults. Very tiny sizes are not available all the time and often come with a higher price tag compared to other puppies. Additionally, older puppies or adults may better fit your specific size requirements.
For our very tiny puppies, we do not accept deposits until they are older. Depending on how small they are, they may require additional vet checks, blood panels, and at least one fecal test. Birth weight plays a minimal role in determining the adult size of the puppy. We have produced 4-pound tiny Shih Tzu from puppies born at 6 ounces, just as we have from puppies born at 3 or 4 ounces. Numerous factors contribute to birth weight, such as litter size, timing of breeding, nutrient distribution in the womb, and the size variability seen in puppies from the same male. Some tiny puppies may be born with liver shunts or heart defects, while others remain tiny and healthy as adults. However, in our experience, most tiny imperial Shih Tzu are born the same size as normal Shih Tzu puppies but exhibit a slower growth rate, which becomes apparent as they become mobile and during the weaning process.
All our Imperial Shih Tzu puppies must reach a minimum weight of 2 pounds before going to their new homes, regardless of their age. If a puppy needs to fly, we may require them to be a few ounces over 2 pounds for their safety. Puppies under 2 pounds have difficulty regulating their blood sugar levels and are more prone to picking up viruses, which can be life-threatening for tiny Imperial Shih Tzu puppies. We understand the challenges of finding a healthy, well-socialized, very tiny Shih Tzu that still maintains the appearance of a Shih Tzu. We are always willing to wait until we feel comfortable providing a realistic size estimate and ensuring the puppy's full health before accepting a deposit. We urge caution when dealing with breeders who are willing to take deposits on very young, tiny puppies or who send home an Imperial Shih Tzu puppy at 8 weeks. Such practices often lead to health problems or puppies growing significantly larger than expected. We mention this not to perpetuate the misconception that all tiny Shih Tzu are sickly, but to emphasize the importance of choosing the right reputable breeder when selecting a Shih Tzu puppy. We take pride in producing happy, healthy tiny Imperial Shih Tzu, and you can observe them in action on our website
We always reserve the right of pick of litter puppy from our litters as we are continuing to add very selectively to elevate our breeding program to higher levels. We also always reserve the right to refuse a sale of any of our puppies if we feel it is not in their best interest. We also always reserve the right to determine when we feel puppies to be mentally and physically ready to go home. Puppies typically go home at 10 weeks, but sometimes take a little longer. Puppies will be 2 + pounds, eating well on their own, vet checked ect. before joining their new families. Thank you for your understanding. Remember, at Beauty's Shih Tzu we Specialize in Dream puppies!
